So, you may wonder… what the hell am I doing with SoundtrackNet nowadays?

Well, Dan, would read this, and say, close to nothing…

Wife would say, close to everything…

Friends and co-workers… well, this is where you come in.

I’ve been spending the last month plus putting proper meta-data entries into my iTunes library in hopes of converting the library into 30-second clips for the website. Most of this is a LOT of long hours in front of a computer, looking up index numbers from our database and entering them in the right location (in this case, the “grouping” field in iTunes, and then going through the conversion process.

Out of all the music on SoundtrackNet, I personally own about 65k tracks of it… and as I find out now, after doing the matching, 7800 of them are not in the database… ooh, my fingers are going to be tired till December. However, this will not stop progress, and this afternoon, I will begin the task of converting (via SndSampler) all those indexed tracks to faded 30-second clips (VBR) to the website. I have NO idea how long it will take, but this is why we have the computer. Also, using Media Rage, I will be extracting all the high quality album artwork I spent August and September collecting for the library and will be uploading that as well to the site. I hope by years end, that we’ll have a lot of nice looking, and sounding, content on the site.

I’ve been keeping tabs on Dan, and he’s been pretty busy with stuff, so I hope my resurgence in work will help keep him happy for a bit. This additional content will hopefully also inspire folks to buy stuff from our website and click on the ads. I know I probably put in at least an extra 6 hours a day for the past month (weekdays and weekends) beyond the day job getting this done (audio and meta data). Eventually I’ll get back to the DVD conversion, which is my last major geek project for the house for a while… then I’ll get to going through boxes of stuff from the move 4 years ago in an effort to make room to start brewing beer downstairs…

However, I still have tax paperwork for SoundtrackNet to finish up as well… bleh… sucks running the back-office part of a business.
