As it is with most Oscar seasons, there is the audience and Academy sentimental favorite, and this year, it’s Little Miss Sunshine. Strong performances by all cast members is a plus, but nothing really jumps out as “great”. I find Greg Kinnear and Steve Carrell grating now and was distracted by waiting for them to annoy me.
Overall, the story was good (a road trip) and the bash of “little miss” beauty pagents was a kicker (especially her dance routine… which I could guess was going to end that way given the grandfather’s proclivities). Inventive yes, clever no, and I think that is one of those things keeping this from getting the top awards.
