If one can describe a film as overly poignant, this could be it. Although, one of the reasons I’ve participated is this marathon of moviewatching is due to not having seen a number of new releases. So, having missed Flags of Our Fathers, the flip-side to this “trilogy” is missing.

I would also think that intonation and inflection seen and heard in an English language film is terribly lost when stumbling though subtitles. There was a story to be told but it’s entirely lost at times due to the distance in time where the story originates as well as the way it is told. I’m not saying I’m a lazy moviegoer, but it’s just how it feels.

One last critique, as it’s now sound as this is my least favorite of the bunch, but, the washed out film stock used to film war films now is overdone. Please, stop using it… So with that, thank you Clint, but this is probably not your year but valiant in the effort and undertaking, thank you.
